From the Past: Episode II

As a child, Summer was my favourite time of the year! Especially near the middle of July! Why you ask? Well you see, the family and I went up North to go camping. Our camp ground was at Quinn Lake, which is about 40 minutes away from the Town of Parry Sound. It is a private campground for Ontario teachers. Both my parents are teachers, hence the reason I've been there. The campground is beautiful from what I remember. I have loads of great memories from the place, also some not so great memories. The great ones outweigh the bad ones.

The last time I went camping, I broke my ankle but also won the limbo competition with some help with my buddy Kurtis. I haven't seen him in a few years, but he is getting married soon. I wanted to go to his Stag and Doe two weeks ago, but it wasn't able to because the venue was not accessible. Well that year was 2004 and his whole family came camping with my family. Anyway back to the Limbo competition. It was held at a barn, not far from the campground. I won a very nice looking hand carved walking stick, which is somewhere in the garage.

There was a lot of activities run by the campground. There was talent nights once a  week and big  bonfires for the whole campground. This was probably the best night. We'd sing campfire songs, some of them were teacher related. If I were not a teacher... was one of them, which is quite hilarious. The atmosphere of the grounds was just so friendly and inviting. It is a beautiful place, completely surrounded by dense forest. It is well hidden that's for sure. There was a moderately sized beach to  Quinn Lake. The lake is pretty big and blue with an orange tinge. The orange is from the iron, which is because the lake is man made. We spent many a day on that beach and in the water.

Let's get back to some details on the annual camping trip I used to take. We would go for two weeks. We first used to camp in a tent, until I was about 8 I believe. My parents bought a tiny used tent trailer. We used it for about two years. Then my parents bought another tent trailer. It was double the size and brand new. I remember wearing nothing but a bathing suit the whole trip. My favourite part of camping is definitely sharing smores with campground buddies around a nice fire. We would probably be at someone else's site every night. One game we played around the fire is called "there ain't no ain't no flies on us" If you are unfamiliar,  I'll tell you. The group would yell "There ain't no flies on us!

There ain't no flies on us!
There may be flies on some  of you guys,
But there ain't no flies on us!"

Then another group across the grounds would yell that back. The two groups would exchange the words many times, each time getting louder. Sometimes we would change some words, each exchange would become more creative. I wish I could remember some. Basically it would go on until a group stops replying. Anyway it is a very fun game to play. I really miss the camping life! Anyway this is the end to another post. I might be back tomorrow or Sunday! I'll definitely be back for more on Monday! Peace! And remember When in despair, eat a gummy bear!

Side Note: The best way, isn't always the easiest way.
